Choose from many sports activities, have yourself pampered and dine in the countless food outlets around the island. Allow us to welcome you to Boracay by providing you with all the information you need about this island paradise.
OVERVIEW
Known as one of the best beaches in the world, Boracay is an island paradise like no other. This small island in the Visayan region of the Philippine archipelago has never failed to attract its visitors with its immaculate beaches, tropical palm trees and clear waters.
Just over 20 years ago, this island was virtually unknown to the world, with only the locals, backpackers and beach fanatics enjoying its natural treasures. Far from how it is today, the white beach was free of any bars, shops or hotels. It was really a quiet and provincial beach playground for its locals, the Boracaynons. Electricity was even considered a luxury until it was fully installed in the 1990’s.
From a simple beach lover’s secret to a tourist’s must-see destination, the island of Boracay has really transformed into an international tropical paradise.
What is also incredible about Boracay is how it literally transforms itself during the day and night. In the morning until the afternoon, the white beach is crowded with children running and charging into the blue while the adults just simply sleep and relax under the gleaming sun. The water is alive with activities, from paraws (sailboats), kayaking and jetskis to every water adventure you can imagine. At night when the waters are calm and the moon is reflected on the waters, the white beach front hosts the coolest and undeniably the most outrageous beach parties. From acoustic, jazz, alternative and techno to RnB, different genres of music fill the Boracay air until the early dawn. Restaurants along the beach offer various kinds of feasts in every cuisine imaginable and serve drinks that are perfect for just hanging out.
But the thing that really makes Boracay the popular destination it is today is its fine powder white sand. Its cool, soft feeling will leave you lying on it forever.
With all these and more, one must not miss to experience the exciting and fun-filled island of Boracay where beach life is definitely at its best.
GEOGRAPHY
The island of Boracay is located at the heart of the Visayan Islands, in Aklan. The most famous part of the island is the White Beach which is divided into three stations, each catering to a different kind of market. There are two primary beaches in the area, Balabag Beach and the Bulabog Beach. Dotting the 3-kilometer stretch of fine white sand of Balabag Beach are various hotels resorts, restaurants, bars and beach shops. Bulabog Beach is found on the other side of the island. It is normally occupied by kite-boarders and wind-surfers because of its shallow waters. The highest peak in the island is Mt. Luho.
CLIMATE
The best time to go to Boracay is September to early weeks of June. Cool winds, chilly nights, and occasional rain showers fill the months of November to February. The wet season is from July to October.
HOW TO GET THERE
There are three ways to get to Boracay:
By Air
The island is accessible by air from Manila or Cebu through two principal gateways: Caticlan Airport or Kalibo Airport. The quickest way is via Caticlan, the nearest port to the island of Boracay where local airlines such as Asian Spirit, SEAir, Air Philippines, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific have direct flights. These airlines have at least 30 flights daily to Boracay. The flight takes about 30-40 minutes depending on the airline. Travelers disembarking at Caticlan can take a short tricycle ride to the Caticlan Jetty Port Terminal where the boats will take them on a 15-minute ride to the island.
Other airlines land in Kalibo, Aklan. At the airport, arrangements can be made for transportation to and from Caticlan, which includes the boat trip to the island. The ride from the airport to Caticlan takes about an hour to an hour and twenty minutes.

GETTING AROUND THE ISLAND
There are a lot of tricycles available on the main road of the island. A tricycle ride costs Php7 but the driver will ask you to share your ride with other passengers. Special rides (which give you exclusivity to the tricycle) costs Php50-100. These tricycles can be seen waiting for customers at the entrance of D’Mall from the main road. Be careful though -- some tricycle drivers tend to overcharge everyone.
WHAT TO SEE
White Beach
The White Beach, located at the western side of the island, is dotted with hotels, resorts, restaurants and other notable establishments that comprise the beach life and nightlife of Boracay. What makes the White Beach one of the best beaches in the world is its talc-like white sand which is cool to the touch. Be careful though, bringing out white sand as souvenir from the island is prohibited.
Willy’s Rock
While walking along Station 1 of the White Beach, you will see this famous rock that is the subject of almost all the postcards of Boracay. Willy’s Rock is the most featured landmark of Boracay because it is the only rock sight seen all throughout the long pristine beach in Balabag. A statue of the Virgin Mary is located on top of the rock formation.
Bulabog Beach
Opposite of the White Beach in Balabag is the windy Bulabog Beach which is the favorite beach spot of the kite-boarding enthusiasts. The windy atmosphere and shallow waters are perfect for kiteboarding, wind-surfing and other extreme sports done in the island. It is also the site for the Boracay International Funboard Cup.
Bat Caves
For those looking for a different kind of island adventure, you can have your own exploration trip to the Bat Caves in the North East Coast of Yapak, found in the western part of the island. It is habituated by giant fruit bats, flying foxes and cave bats that roam the island at night.
Puka Beach
Located at the southern part of the island is the much-isolated Puka Beach. Here, local vendors get their materials from the puka shells scattered around the beach to make their souvenirs. For those looking for a secluded place on the island you can take a boat ride here and enjoy a picnic by the sea.
View from Mt. Luho
Let the beauty of the whole island take your breath away from atop Mt. Luho, the highest point of Boracay. Here, you will see the mesmerizing guitar-shape of Boracay and all its white sand beaches. An ideal island souvenir is your picture taken from here.
Sandcastles of the White Beach
Nope, not those sandcastles that children make. On the white beach of Boracay, you can see many of these artistically made sandcastles being maintained and sculpted by the owners. Tourists can have their pictures taken at the sandcastles for a minimal donation. At night, the sandcastles are lit with candles revealing romantic silhouettes and lights that will guide your way on the sand.
Boracay Sunset
There are no words to describe the view of the sunset when in Boracay. The sky is mixed with different hues of orange, red and yellow while the boats and paraws are sailing on the sea. Aside from signaling the beginning of the night activities, the famous Boracay sunset is a photographer’s favorite subject.
WHAT TO DO
Boracay is the sun worshippers’ absolute paradise. With the beautiful stretch of sand extending through nearly the length of the entire island, enjoying the sun has never been this breathtaking. But Boracay has even more to offer the tourists who come to the island because the entire island is abuzz with exhilarating activities for a person to enjoy.
SPORTS
Fun-filled activities on the beach
It’s time to have fun on the beach. Play Frisbee or volleyball for on-the-beach activities or try the banana boat and the flying fish for some water adventure. For tandem activities, pairs can go kayaking or parasailing together. There are a lot of activities to enjoy, but remember that it’s always fun to pair up under the sun.
Scuba Diving / Snorkeling
Boracay is synonymous to swimming in an extraordinarily beautiful and calm sea and sunbathing along the white powder beaches. However, the island is also known to have the best scuba diving sites in the country. There are 25-30 dive sites within a 15-minute speed boat ride from the beach, suitable for both beginners and advanced divers. Dive centers located along the beach offer diving lessons, which include the rental of all the necessary equipment. The dive centers operate a cartel and have standard price range so the rates are the same at all centers. Dives range from 'Angol Point' (10m), through 'Crocodile Island' (22-25m), a straightforward wall dive, up to 'Yapak'- a deep wall dive suitable for only the most experienced divers due to the strong currents and the possibility of seeing sharks and stingrays.
Kiteboarding, Wind Surfing and other extremes
Boracay's Bulabog beach has been known as the best kitesurf destination in Asia. In recent years, it has seen the inclusion of freestyle, speed trial and "hang time" events for kiting. December to March is the peak season where one can see the lagoon alive with the vibrant hues of windsurf sails and kites belonging to enthusiasts from around the globe. During the "habagat" season, the white beach side is home of the kite-boarders from June to November. Kiteboarding Tournaments and other water competitions are held annually in this side of the island. Skimboarding is a new fun sport for kids and entertainment for older people. It is a welcome new attraction and a pleasure to watch. Skimboards are available for rent at several places along White Beach.
Wall Climbing
Wall climbing enthusiasts can also enjoy rock climbing in D’ Wall. Located at the center of D’Mall, it is an outdoor rock climbing gym where one can work his skills and have fun at the same time.
Golf
